Dreamy Orange Creamies

These orange creamsicles were delicious.  My husband came home and ate three and then asked if we could make more… which, of course, we did.  They were smooth and creamy and tasted like an Orange Julius on a stick.  The great part about it is they were super simple and kids could do it all by themselves.  Plus there were only four ingredients which is a huge plus for me.

HOW TO GET THE KIDS INVOLVED

Measuring ingredients can sometimes be hard.  But when I gave Jack a spoon to scoop out the orange concentrate and put it in a measuring cup it made the process so much easier for him.  We use this method in a lot of measuring components.

Kids love to stir and kids love to pour, so this recipe allowed them a lot of both.  They loved stirring the ingredients together and pouring them into the popsicle molds.  Its messy, but its so much more fun when they do it themselves.

EDUCATE WHILE YOU BAKE

This is a perfect recipe to teach kiddos about patterns and colors.  I purposely got popsicle molds with lots of different colors and then I asked my two year old to find the colors and asked my four year old to put the lids in a a specific color pattern after the recipe had set for 30-40 minutes.  Great opportunity to educate while you bake (or freeze in this instance 4-6 hours to be exact.)

Enjoy other frozen treats and popsicle ideas.

Orange Creamsicles

Ingredients

  • 1 cup orange juice concentrate
  • 1 cup heavy cream or melted ice cream
  • 3 Tbsp. honey
  • 1/4 tsp. orange extract (I didn't have this so I didn't use it and it turned out great!)
  • 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, whisk all the ingredients together

  2. Pour mixture into popsicle molds.  Let set for 30-60 minutes then add popsicles, freeze for another 4-6 hours

  3. When you are ready to serve, run hot water over the popsicle molds until it loosens and then pull out.  Enjoy

ADULT TASKS: I measured out the heavy cream and helped with the vanilla. That was it.

KID TASKS: Measuring all ingredients, adding them, whisking them together, putting into popsicle molds, putting the sticks in
