Red and Pink Valentine’s Day Drinks

I make smoothies a lot at home. Several times a week we will have a smoothie with our dinner, or as an afternoon snack. I no longer follow recipes as I make smoothies but I have a general idea of the ratio of ingredients to get the consistency and flavor that we love. In general I add greek yogurt, frozen berries or other fruits, water and 1-2 bananas. These recipes are variations on what I make at home. I wanted to develop some fun drinks that go along with the colors for Valentine’s day, and this is what we came up with: a red raspberry slushie, and a healthy pink smoothie!

Smoothies and other blended drinks and recipes are great for toddlers. Not only do the measurements not matter too much, but the steps are simple – drop the ingredients in the blender, and BLEND.

My kiddos had great success peeling the banana, putting the frozen raspberries and strawberries and ice into the blender, and pouring in the liquids.

I just have to talk a little bit about my four year old son. He’s turning into such a helpful and sweet boy! As we were done making the smoothies and I was arranging these little hearts for the pictures, he got right up on the table and said “I can do that for you mom! So your pictures look awesome!” and he proceeded to carefully and thoughtfully arrange these little pink hearts on our backdrop.

Once that was done and I started taking pictures he came back over and stood next to the smoothie, saying “If I stand right here does that make the pictures look good? So you have great pictures on your camera?” and he posed for me so sweetly! It made my mother heart melt. He is so cute sometimes and he just wanted to make me happy in this moment! I need to remember these times when he’s crying or angry because it is so endearing!
