In honor of Mother’s Day I came up with a series of toast recipes that are so simple, a toddler can make it for their mother, with supervision and just a little adult prep! The steps are easy: TOAST, SPREAD and SPRINKLE.
BACON AVOCADO TOAST
TOAST a piece of bread.
SPREAD mashed avocado on top.
SPRINKLE with bacon bits.
Note: Consider adding a dash of lemon juice and salt to the mashed avocado. The lemon will keep it from browning as fast.
STRAWBERRIES AND CREAM TOAST
TOAST a piece of bread
SPREAD with soft cream cheese
SPRINKLE with finely diced fresh strawberries.
Notes: To make it easy an adult should prep the strawberries by dicing it beforehand. If mom has a sweet tooth, consider stirring in some powdered sugar with the softened cream cheese before spreading. Little miss 3 loved making this toast and also ate the whole thing!
APPLE CRISP TOAST
TOAST a piece of bread.
SPREAD with applesauce.
SPRINKLE with your favorite cinnamon-tinged granola.
Notes: This was my husband’s favorite toast variation. If your granola doesn’t taste like cinnamon, throw in a dash and stir with your granola before sprinkling on the toast.
EVERYTHING BAGEL TOAST
TOAST a piece of bread.
SPREAD with softened cream cheese.
SPRINKLE with everything bagel seasoning.
Notes: My mom found this seasoning at Trader Joe’s. Once you have it in your pantry you may find yourself wanting to throw it on everything!
PINA COLADA TOAST
TOAST a piece of bread.
SPREAD with apricot-pineapple preserves.
SPRINKLE with coconut chips.
Notes: Consider adding some crushed pineapple on top of the apricot-pineapple preserves so it gets a stronger pineapple flavor. I tried using straight up crushed pineapple and it made the toast soggy.
HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY
I want to wish each and every one of you a happy Mother’s day! I will be sharing some thoughts and questions about motherhood on Instagram so head over and say hi or leave me a comment!
